Safflower
$4.00Price
Carthamus tinctorius
Tall upright plants produce unique looking, spikey, bright orange flowers used for dye projects or dried for culinary use. Dried Safflower petals are used in cooking as well as natural dye. A celebrated dye plant in Japan, the petals produce both an orange and yellow color. Prefers full sun and grows to 3 feet tall. Blooms from late July to first frost. This seed crop comes from a few seeds I gathered in the greenhouse one day at Forest Garden Farm here on Vashon. Thanks Lisa!
