Irish Preans
$4.50Price
Pisum sativum
Grow to harvest as a dry pea. I was attracted to these curious peas from the Irish Seed Savers Association as they are a unique crop thought to be native to Ireland. They grow very vigorously and tall so need a 6-8 foot trellis. The flowers are gorgeous. The resulting peas are very large and look more like a fava bean than a pea- hence the name Prean I suppose. They cook up fine and make a delicious addition to a winter soup. Cook like a dry bean.
These are special ancestral seeds for me and my family. If you have Irish or Northern European roots this type of pea could be part of your linneage as well.
80 days to maturity
