Coal Runner Bean

Coal Runner Bean

$4.50Price

Phaseolus coccineus

Coal is a fun new to me variety from Irish Seed Savers.  The pods are extremely long producing lots of bean bang for your buck!  Runner Beans are a quadruple whammy in the Garden- they produce beautiful flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies, they grow large edible pods, they are so fun to shell once they have dried down, and the dried beans are food as well as seeds.  If you haven’t tried growing Runner Beans in a while I recommend it highly.

Start in April- they can be direct sown earlier than snap beans.  Plant in full sun.  They are vigorous growers and need something to climb.  Place a trellis by a window to watch the hummingbirds sip nectar all summer.  Harvest green pods when young and steam the green beans.  Or wait and harvest dry beans for winter soups in September.

90 days to maturity

Packet contains ~20 seeds
